I only wish, now, that I'd saved a few more details!

Sounds like you had great food! I later worked for the company who discovered Jerritt, so knew some of the people there.

I never understood why people looked back fondly to high school, but I do look back fondly to the late 70s and 1980s. Yeah, those were the days! I totally agree. I worked 2 summers in minerals exploration as an under-grad. Summer of 1980 was for Freeport Gold at the Jerritt Canyon north of Elko. Don't recall the pay but seems like it was minimal. Might have been 10 hour days but pretty sure only 5 per week. Accommodations were in rooms (in my case, 4 in a very old moble home) owned by the bar at Jack Creek, who also provided our meals; family style with the family who owned the bar! Transportation was in ancient trucks - one used a quart of oil per week.

The second was the summer of 1983 doing barite exploration out of Hailey Idaho - the best job I ever had. Again I don't recall the pay but seems like it was generous. However, get this: 8-hr days, 5 per week, full expense accounts (hmm ... should we BBQ steaks tonight or go to a nice restaurant?), transportation was in brand new, fully-loaded Ford F-250 4WD.

Man, them was the days.

Ivar the OldAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
