I didn't ever work with her, but knew her through a good friend of mine, who is mentioned obtusely above. We worked together in your area and elsewhere in the West.

I've lost touch with her, and am now retired. Because it's your mom's, it must have special meaning.

I never heard a Filson vest called a cruiser vest before - must be a forestry thing. We just call them "Filson's" even though Filson makes lots of different items of clothing. I've never had one last me more than 4-5 years max, unless I wasn't doing any field work. I'm kind of rough on them!Silver Foxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03131032620978696727noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8693614218792476252.post-37658447537269783462009-03-30T14:27:00.000-07:002009-03-30T14:27:00.000-07:00Your cruiser vest makes me sort of nostalgic. She still uses her 30-year-old Filson.

I inherited this from her, which is of the same era. They haven't changed the design a bit. Just wish I lived somewhere cool enough to wear it more often.Ambivalent Academichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05908454781195782927noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8693614218792476252.post-84459224796498237112009-03-27T17:04:00.000-07:002009-03-27T17:04:00.000-07:00GeolJoe, I alway double tie my loops, but haven't ...GeolJoe, I alway double tie my loops, but haven't tried climbing rope as laces yet - I'd guess that's kind of similar to regular heavy-duty laces but slightly thicker?

Cath, you are incorrigible about this photo thing! ;)

Actually, the safety vest looks somewhat cumbersome without filling the pockets with anything, because these don't really come in my size!Silver Foxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03131032620978696727noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8693614218792476252.post-64486636416845584122009-03-27T11:02:00.000-07:002009-03-27T11:02:00.000-07:00I'm just intrigued about how the jacket looks when...I'm just intrigued about how the jacket looks when you've got that huge amount of stuff crammed into the pockets!Cath@VWXYNot?https://www.blogger.com/profile/01164268321173313605noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8693614218792476252.post-38095316526953388322009-03-27T08:40:00.000-07:002009-03-27T08:40:00.000-07:00the best shoelaces are 4mm climbing rope (aka acce...the best shoelaces are 4mm climbing rope (aka accessory cord).

just be sure to use a square knot to tie them.GeologyJoehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07212488235413098715noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8693614218792476252.post-6134259366246921922009-03-26T20:06:00.000-07:002009-03-26T20:06:00.000-07:00Great story, PD; glad you aren't bound by stereoty...Great story, PD; glad you aren't bound by stereotypes. But, yeah, you've got to get out of your vehicle!

Cath, hmm... I'll be thinking about it (have been). I take it, though, that you'd like a photo not because of any lack of imagination. It turned out quite well in general, because we're not your archetypal couple where the husband yells and refuses to get directions while the wife can't navigate her way out of a paper bag. Aaaah...movie characters...

Anyway, there was one point though, where we weren't sure where we were, and we got to a T juncture. Which way to turn? Well, it would depend on what direction we were going. Compass out. We're going North? What? How is that possible? Ok then....let's turn right. What? We're still going North? We see a sign indicating we should have gone on the other direction. U-turn. We're STILL going North????

Aaaah, magnetic fields. You'd think being engineers we'd know sitting in a big metal box would affect the compass...DUH. :)PhizzleDizzlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02036442165798690074noreply@blogger.com
