A Glacier in Snow and through Trees

We did finally make it up to Matanuska Glacier this week, through heavy snow, and occasional near whiteout conditions. The view from the Long Rifle Lodge made the glacier look like a white cow in snow.
A close up view of the glacier, as seen through trees – probably black spruce.
And just in case you don't believe me, two nearly identical views taken on a sunny late February day in 2007.

Yea!!!! I've been waiting for these pictures! Yippee! :) How gorgeous- oh how it makes me long for home. Hmm... I've never been back to view it with geologist eyes now that I think upon it. There is an old mine near my village I've always wanted to explore- guess I should try to carve out some time to do that before we move again.

In the meantime I'm enjoying hearing about YOUR trip- and you take better pictures than me anyhow! :)

CP, get out there and see that mine! I used to say things like, "Oh, I'll come back later," but it doesn't always work out that way, so I try to stop and look now (of course that isn't always possible). Glad you like the pics! :)
