Our New Garden

We have a new little garden in our tiny backyard behind our parking area. Before putting in the plants, we had someone install an outdoor faucet, which didn't come with the house, and for which the landlady will fortunately reimburse us. Since putting in these few plants early last week - tomatoes, peppers, red kale, zucchini, and marigolds - the garden has seen little sun and abnormal rain for this time of year.

Possibly these plants are too close together, possibly they won't really get quite enough sun. In time, we'll put in a little drip system. I may shortly get some chocolate mint runners from an overseas blogger source - those will go in our tiny front yard where there isn't quite as much sun, and where I won't care if the mint overruns everything.

Cool. All I manage to grow on the balcony is weeds. Even the herbs refused life and died. Sigh.

LostGeo, we haven't had our baking summer sun yet, so we'll see how things go!

If tomatoes and squash will grow up here in Vancouver, I'm sure they'll get enough sunshine where you are!

My plants are looking healthy so far, I have flowers but no fruit yet on the tomatoes, nothing yet on the squash, peas and beans. Our growing season is pretty short so I have to stick to cherry tomatoes, the bigger ones don't ripen!

The worry we have about the sun is the sun angle; some of the plants don't get sun past about 3:00 right now (or maybe earlier). So, we'll just see.

We bought the tomatoes with a few flowers and a few small fruits already on. Although the plants don't seem to have grown since planting them, the tomatoes look a little bigger! (Wishful thinking?)

All the plants are perkier since we put them in the ground, and the kale and marigolds have grown a bit, and maybe the peppers.

I love cherry tomatoes!
