As Kim noted about a week ago, there have been some hints and threats of an ending field season going around, here and there in the west.
My first clue that the field season was ending, besides seeds falling everywhere, was some bright shiny frost I saw while driving to work one morning. I'm not sure it was the first frost, you understand, but it was a definitely photogenic frost.
Photogenic frost - on grass 'neath juniper tree - light and shade combined.
Later in the day, clouds moved in, making it difficult to tell one gray rock from another. A weak sun column (or sun pillar) formed in the west in the gray sky.

You may laugh but my field season is only starting in 4 days! I'll be working from 24th November till christmas in the field in germany and try to map faster than the weather deteriorates.
The exploration field season may be ending, but it also signals the start of geo conventions, conferences, meetings, and post-meeting, hosted-bar gatherings.
Lost (or should I say LG), I'd laugh, but if the weather works, that's great! So far, our weather is actually holding, despite intermittent threats to the contrary and a few muddy places.
Beed, which post-meeting wonderfully hosted-bar gatherings are you planning on going to? I can think of one kind of big one coming up soon - Northwest, which is in Reno this year. Haven't figured out if they are having their big bashes this year or not. Might make it, maybe.

Yup. Heading to Reno next month and hoping people are still in the mood to... gather. :)
